You open Bumble's "cheap first date ideas" page and the same nine ideas stare back. Pack a picnic. Hit a free museum. Take a walk in the park. Cook a meal together [1]. eHarmony does the same swing with coffee dates and gelato strolls [2]. And every list reads like it was written for a city that isn't yours.
The trend works in our favor here. Hinge's 2025 D.A.T.E. Report found that 67 percent of Gen Z daters want to build connection without leaning on alcohol or expensive plans, and slower, lower-cost first dates correlate with a higher chance of a second one [3]. The shape of the date matters more than the price, and the local geography matters more than either.
We live and date in Tulsa. We run events in Tulsa, and we just opened up to OKC singles too. So the generic listicle does not help when you are trying to decide between Cherry Street and the Pearl District on a Thursday night, with thirty bucks in your account and an hour to plan.
This guide names twelve real spots. Six in Tulsa. Six in OKC. All under $25 for two people if you order with a little restraint. Prices and hours verified in June 2026, but call ahead if it has been a while.
What actually makes a first date work under $25
Cheap is the easy part of this brief. Good is the hard part.
A first date needs a few things the budget lists never mention. You need a venue where you can hear each other, because shouting over a band kills the only thing you came here to do. You need something to react to together, whether that is a weird piece of art or a flight of beers or a Ferris wheel, because shared reactions are how strangers become not strangers. And you need a graceful exit. No sit-down dinner with a tasting menu and a check that hits at minute eighty-three, when you both already know.
The other thing you need is room to upgrade. If the first hour is clicking, you want to be able to walk somewhere else and stretch the night. Every spot on this list either includes that option or sits inside a walkable district that does.
We picked these twelve by holding each one against four questions. Can two people talk here without losing their voice. Is there something to look at, taste, or do together. Does $25 actually cover it for two. And if the chemistry is real, is there somewhere to go next. The ones that passed are below.
Six first dates in Tulsa under $25
Cabin Boys Brewery taproom in the Pearl District
The taproom on East 7th opens at four most weeknights and twelve on weekends [4]. Two pints run you about $14 with tip, which leaves room for a snack from whatever truck is parked outside. The room is warm and the music is loud enough to fill silence without drowning conversation. Pearl District is a five-block walk to murals, more bars, and the Center of the Universe if the night goes long.
If it is clicking, walk a few blocks over to the Cabin Boys brewpub on Main and order one shared appetizer.
Antoinette Baking Co morning date
A morning first date is an underrated move, and Antoinette in the Arts District is built for it. Open at 7am on weekdays and until 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays [5]. Two pastries and two coffees run about $18. The light through the front windows is good, the room is quiet enough to actually hear each other, and you both still have your whole day after.
If it is clicking, walk to Guthrie Green one block over and find a bench.
Off the Cuff at Guthrie Green
Guthrie Green runs free concerts all season, from the Starlight series on Tuesday nights to the Off the Cuff lineup that kicks off in April [6]. Bring a blanket, grab tacos from a truck on the edge of the lawn, and your total is maybe $20 for two. The acoustics are forgiving, the crowd is mixed, and there is enough space to sit close without being on top of each other.
If it is clicking, walk to Antoinette or Cabin Boys after the set ends.
Philbrook Friday night
Philbrook drops general admission to $5 every Friday after 5pm [7]. So that is $10 in, plus a coffee from the cafe inside, plus a walk through the gardens out back. You are still under $20 and you have one of the best museums in the state to react to together. The gardens get golden around sunset and the building empties out by 8pm, which gives you a long quiet finish.
If it is clicking, drive ten minutes to Bird and Bottle and sit at the bar.
Bird and Bottle bar seat
Bird and Bottle in midtown does $4 martinis and a small bistro menu that punches well above the price [8]. Two martinis and a shared plate land around $24 with tip if you order carefully. The bar is dim, the room is small, and you sit close because there is nowhere else to sit. That last part is the whole reason to pick it.
If it is clicking, stay for one more round and then walk to the patio.
Mother Road Market on Route 66
Mother Road Market is a 27,000 square foot food hall on historic Route 66 with twenty vendors under one roof [9]. The genius for a first date is that you do not commit to one cuisine. You each pick a small thing, you sit together, and you taste each other's food. Two small plates and two drinks run about $22 if you skip the cocktails. There is also mini golf inside.
If it is clicking, play the eighteen holes.
Six first dates in OKC under $25
Crystal Bridge at the Myriad Gardens
The outdoor gardens are free and gorgeous. Inside, the Crystal Bridge Conservatory is $10.50 a person, so $21 for two [10]. You wander through cloud forest, desert room, and a koi pond, and you both have things to point at the whole time. Downtown OKC is right outside the door when you are ready to walk somewhere for a drink after.
If it is clicking, walk to Scissortail Park next door and find a bench by the water.
Free summer concerts at Scissortail Park
Scissortail Park runs a free summer concert series with the OKC Philharmonic, soul nights, and a high-energy music weekend through the season [11]. Bring a blanket, get a snack from one of the vendors, and your total stays near $15. The park sits between Bricktown and the river, which means a walk after the music is built in.
If it is clicking, walk the canal and split a cone at the end.
Live on the Plaza second Friday
The Plaza District throws a free block party on the second Friday of every month from 6pm to 10pm, with live music, local art, and pop-up vendors [12]. You spend nothing to walk in. You spend maybe $15 to share food from a vendor and grab one drink. The street is closed to cars and the energy is high enough to carry an awkward opening, which is mostly what a first date needs.
If it is clicking, finish at Roxy's Ice Cream Social two blocks down [13].
First Friday gallery walk in the Paseo
The Paseo Arts District runs a free gallery walk on the first Friday of every month from 6pm to 9pm, with more than 25 galleries and 80 artists across a few walkable blocks [14]. You drift, you stop, you react to weird paintings together, and you spend zero dollars unless you want to. Two glasses of wine at one of the galleries puts you at $20.
If it is clicking, grab dinner at one of the Paseo restaurants after.
Wheeler Ferris Wheel sunset ride
The Wheeler Ferris Wheel runs April through November and a single ride is $8 a person [15]. So that is $16 for two, and the ride goes long enough that you actually talk on it. The wheel sits on the river with a clear view of the downtown skyline at sunset. There are food trucks at the base most weekends and a small park around it.
If it is clicking, walk to a food truck and split something.
21c Museum Hotel art galleries
21c Museum Hotel in Bricktown runs a free contemporary art museum that is open to the public 24 hours a day [16]. You walk in, you wander, and you both react out loud to whatever wall hits weird. The galleries rotate every few months, so the talkable stuff stays fresh. Walk to a coffee or a low-end cocktail in the same block and your night runs about $18 with tip.
If it is clicking, head to the rooftop bar Mary Eddy's or step out and walk the canal.
The shortcut
Planning a first date is the worst part of dating in either city. You are picking from a list. You are texting back and forth about a time. You are hoping the photos matched the person, and you are doing all of that for someone you have never sat across from. That is a lot of work to spend on a stranger.
Beyond The Sparks is the version of this where the planning is already done. You take the SPARK Quiz, we match you with people whose results actually fit yours, and we put you at Cabin Boys Brewery in Tulsa on a curated night. The venue is set. The icebreakers are on the table. The matches are not random.
So instead of writing twelve "hey what are you up to Thursday" messages, you show up to one event and meet several people who are wired for the same kind of connection you are. We are expanding into OKC events this summer, and the format travels.
If you want the next event, the [events page](https://beyondthesparks.com/events) has the dates. If you want to see how the matching works first, the [SPARK Quiz](https://beyondthesparks.com/spark-quiz) takes about seven minutes and tells you which of our four sparks you lead with. Both are free.
You can also keep the list above and run your own first dates. We hope you do. But after the third $25 night that ends with a polite hug at the curb, come to an event and skip the planning.
