It is summer in Tulsa, which means dinner-and-a-movie is the laziest move you can make. The city actually turns into one giant date layout when it gets warm. Free concerts. Free kayaks. Free art crawls. Free Drillers fireworks. Cherry Street patios that stretch from 4 p.m. until midnight. Here is what to do instead, with addresses, dates, and the move that actually works.

Free Kayaks on Peggy's Pond at the Gathering Place

The ONEOK Boathouse sits inside the Gathering Place at 2650 South John Williams Parkway, and it rents canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats all summer for free [2]. The boats put in on Peggy's Pond, a calm contained pocket of water with the Tulsa skyline behind it and views of the wetlands on the far side [2].

Show up early on a Saturday. Boats go first-come, first-served, and a 70-degree morning fills the dock by 10 a.m. [1]. After you tie off, walk the Adventure Playground (yes, adults end up climbing it too), the gardens, and the QuikTrip Great Lawn. Then grab coffee at the Williams Lodge cafe.

The whole half-day costs you zero credit card swipes. We send a lot of third dates here because it is impossible to stay on your phone in a kayak.

Lawn Dinner at the Vista at the Boathouse

The Vista sits inside the Gathering Place, glass-walled, and looks out across the Arkansas River and the Centennial Park bridge. Walk in straight from the boathouse and you have a date that ran from morning kayaks to sunset cocktails without you ever moving your car.

Order something small. Vista is not the move for a three-hour tasting menu. It is the move for a clean handoff from afternoon outside to evening with a drink in your hand.

Starlight Concerts at Guthrie Green

Guthrie Green at 111 East Reconciliation Way runs Starlight Concerts every Tuesday night through summer, and every show is free [3]. Doors are casual. The lawn fills up by a quarter to 8 for the 8 p.m. start [3].

Bring a blanket. Bring something to share. The food trucks rotating through the Arts District handle dinner. Cain's Ballroom is two blocks away if the show ends early and you want to keep moving.

This one rewards repeat visits. Different band, same lawn, different vibe each week. We have heard from couples whose entire June was "Starlight Tuesdays plus Cherry Street Saturdays." That is a decent summer template.

Off the Cuff Concerts at Guthrie Green

When Guthrie Green books a national headliner, it shows up under the Off the Cuff label. The 2026 season opened on Wednesday April 29 with Grammy winners Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, with Money Chicha (the Austin cumbia and Latin funk group) on May 16 [5]. First Friday Art Crawl in the Arts District

The Tulsa Arts District runs First Friday every month from spring through fall. The May 2026 First Friday brought the Inspyral Fire Circus to Guthrie Green with acrobats, contortionists, jugglers, and firebreathers around an 8 p.m. main show [5]. Galleries stay open late. The streets close. Music plays out of open doors.

Park once near Cain's Ballroom or the Brady Theater and walk the whole loop. The walking is half the date. Stop at Hodges Bend for a cocktail, at Vault for dinner, and at one of the gallery openings on Reconciliation Way. The whole thing is free until you decide to buy a drink or a small painting.

Drillers Games and Fireworks at ONEOK Field

ONEOK Field sits at 201 North Elgin Avenue, and the Tulsa Drillers play 69 home games a season [7]. The 2026 promotional schedule headlines 21 postgame fireworks shows, including the largest show in club history for the country's 250th birthday [8].

Mark these dates in particular. May 1 and May 2 for back-to-back postgame fireworks. May 25 for the Memorial Day game and fireworks. June 26 through June 28 for the full Independence Day weekend, with the June 28 game starting at 6.30 p.m. so the fireworks happen during civil twilight [8]. July 18 through 20 is Noodlers Weekend with another fireworks show.

Drillers games are the most underrated date in town. Cheap. Three hours. Plenty of running pauses to talk. Beer and a hot dog cost less than a movie popcorn, and the fireworks earn the night without any work from you. Sit on the third base side for sunset views.

Bike the River Parks Trail at Dusk

If your date owns a bike, ride the River Parks Trail south from downtown. The paved system runs along the Arkansas River with miles of trail and a pedestrian bridge that is ideal for sunset shots [9]. About 7 miles south puts you at Turkey Mountain.

Even shorter loops work. Park at 41st Street and ride to the pedestrian bridge and back. The sun sets behind the bluffs, the temperature drops 10 degrees in 15 minutes, and you have something to talk about other than work. Hike Turkey Mountain for Sunset

Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness sits at 68th Street and Elwood Avenue on 750 rugged acres in the heart of South Tulsa [9]. There are 30 miles of trail across beginner, intermediate, and advanced loops.

The Pink Trail is the date move. It runs 5.7 miles around the western side of the mountain with the best sunset views in the park [9]. Bring water and good shoes. The Red Trail is a 0.8-mile paved loop if you want something short and easy, and the Blue Trail (1.5 miles) climbs to the summit if you want a small challenge with a payoff [9]. The Yellow Trail (4.4 miles) heads north toward the Arkansas River.

Park, hike to sunset, then drop into Cherry Street for dinner. That sequence is one of the cleanest two-part dates in Tulsa.

Cherry Street Bar Crawl

Cherry Street has six bars inside a half-mile, and a Friday night summer crawl actually works because the patios are all open. Start at Roosevelt's with a cocktail. Walk to the Tavern for a second round. Stop at McNellie's South City for a Guinness and shepherd's pie. End at Mercury Lounge if a band is playing.

Order one drink at each, then keep moving. The walking is what makes the crawl feel like a date and not a bar night. Locals call Cherry Street the historic district where local boutiques, art galleries, and farm-to-table restaurants line 15th Street under century-old oaks [6]. That is the vibe.

Brookside Sunday Brunch and a Walk

Brookside runs south down Peoria Avenue and is full of indie charm and sidewalk cafes with jazz drifting out [6]. Doc's Wine & Food, Mondo's (the rooftop bar is the move), and the Tropical Sno cart in summer.

Sunday brunch with mimosas, a walk past the boutiques, then a slow drive south to Veterans Park. Easy, calm, and the right move when neither of you wants to power through another high-energy night.

Philbrook Gardens at Golden Hour

Philbrook Museum of Art at 2727 South Rockford Road has 25 acres of gardens that stay open into evening hours during summer. Pack a small picnic, walk the formal gardens, then sit at the lower reflecting pool as the sun drops. The museum runs a Grand Wine Tasting through its Wine Experience program if you want to time the date to a specific event [10].

A Drillers Game and Cain's Ballroom Combo

This combo is the move when you want a high-energy night without doing the usual dinner-then-bar sequence. It also handles the awkward "what next" question because the schedule is already set for you.

Fitness on the Green

Sunday Zumba and Wednesday yoga run weekly at Guthrie Green from May through October [5]. We know, working out on a date sounds risky. But a 45-minute class followed by brunch at the Tavern or the Hyatt rooftop beats scrolling Instagram on a patio.

This is also a low-stakes first date move. You are doing something together, sweating a little, and you both have something specific to talk about afterward instead of grinding through small talk.

Free Art at the Gilcrease Museum

The Gilcrease Museum at 1400 North Gilcrease Museum Road is currently undergoing a rebuild, but its garden grounds, sculpture trails, and rotating outdoor exhibits remain open and free much of the year. Check the calendar before you go. The grounds alone are worth a 90-minute walk on a Saturday morning, and the Osage Hills views are some of the best in the city.

The Blue Dome District After Dark

The Blue Dome District takes its name from the 1920s Gulf Oil station at Second and Detroit and runs east from there. Craft cocktail lounges, live music venues, art galleries, and the Vintage Wine Bar (very dark lighting, candles, the right room for an after-dinner drink) all sit inside a four-block walk [6].

We send the third or fourth date here when the formal dinner already happened. Kim's for tableside Korean BBQ, then a walk to the Vintage for a glass of something red. Easy, walkable, and the photos are good.

Tactical Notes for Summer in Tulsa

Heat is real. Outdoor events from late June through mid-August get brutal between noon and 6 p.m. Schedule the outdoor portion before 11 a.m. or after 7 p.m. Otherwise you both end up sweaty and grumpy by the time dinner starts.

Mosquitoes are real. Pack a small bottle of DEET-free spray for any Turkey Mountain, Gathering Place, or River Parks date. It is a small move that fixes a real problem.

Storms are real. Summer in Tulsa means a 30 percent chance of a 4 p.m. thunderstorm most weeks. Have a Plan B that is indoors. Bar Serra. Hemingway. Cain's. A Drillers game with a rain delay is actually a fun date because the conversation has to fill the time.

Free does not mean cheap-feeling. Half the dates on this list cost less than $20 total. None of them feel cheap. That gap is the magic of Tulsa in summer. The infrastructure of the city wants you to be outside together.
